Hera

ESA's HERA mission will study the Didymos binary asteroid system to evaluate how well kinetic impact works as a planetary defence strategy. Carrying CubeSats Milani and Juventas, HERA will collect critical data on dust clouds, volatiles, and asteroid structure. ISISPACE’s Deep Space Deployer (DSD) ensures precise staged deployment of these CubeSats in deep space, enabling in-proximity operations and intersatellite linking for enhanced gravity estimation.

Start Your Mission More About Our Product

Following NASA’s DART mission, which impacted Dimorphos in 2024, Hera will further analyse the Didymos system to refine planetary defence strategies. ISISPACE DSD is a cutting-edge safety box of 4.9 Kg (approx.), designed to protect, power, and communicate with CubeSat payloads, Milani and Juventas (in Hera mission) during long-duration space missions.

Our DSD enables controlled deployment in deep space with a precise CubeSat Release System (CRS) and umbilical connection, ensuring a release velocity of >2.0 cm/s, which is significantly lower than typical LEO deployments (~100 cm/s), facilitating precise manoeuvring and coordinated operations with the host platform. The DSD is fully customizable to mission-specific needs, including the integration of a Life Support Interface Board (LSIB) for enhanced electrical protection.
